In questo Chronology Highlight sono analizzate tutte le apparizioni cronologiche dei Vendicatori negli albi e nei racconti pubblicati tra il 1996 e il 1998 e tutti gli albi che contengono storie o sequenze di pagine ambientate (cronologicamente) nello stesso periodo.

Altresì, l'highlight sottostante non include solo le apparizioni dei Vendicatori come team ma anche ogni albo correlato o importante per la loro continuity collocato cronologicamente nel periodo 1996-1998, come ad esempio i racconti in cui alcuni membri dei Vendicatori appaiono singolarmente o in team-up e, in alcuni casi, racconti in cui appare anche uno solo dei Vendicatori ma la storia è rilevante ai fini della continuity.

Labels di colore verde (in inglese) indicano invece la presenze di chiavi cronologiche importanti, come ad esempio l'inizio di grandi saghe o crossover o eventi cruciali nella continuity dei Vendicatori. Per la determinazione della collocazione cronologica di ogni albo (entry), sono tenuti in considerazione elementi oggettivi quali ad esempio riferimenti temporali forniti dagli autori (nelle storie, o in interviste e redazionali), ma anche a riferimenti di continuity incrociati all'interno dei racconti. In molti casi, una entry non si riferisce ad una storia nella sua interezza ma solo ad una parte di essa, ovvero ad una sequenza di pagine ben definita in cui si svolgono gli eventi, ed è per questo che uno stesso albo può avere diverse entry collocate in punti diversi della cronologia, riferite a sezioni diverse del fumetto e ambientate in periodi differenti; per ogni entry è quindi sempre indicato l'eventuale sequenza di pagine dell'albo a cui ci si riferisce per la collocazione cronologica degli eventi descritti.

Ogni entry ha un testo di descrizione denominato "Cosa in Cronologia?" di colore celeste (e in inglese) indicante il titolo della storia, l'appartenenza o meno a crossover e grandi saghe, ed eventualmente (in parentesi quadre) l'esatta sequenza di pagine da considerare in cronologia; inoltre, in questa stessa sezione, in italico, c'è il dettaglio sui membri dei Vendicatori (già divenuti membri ufficiali del team nel periodo in cui la storia si colloca in cronologia) o di personaggi fortemente legati alla continuity del gruppo, che appaiono nella entry di riferimento, con l'omissione dei personaggi protagonisti dell'albo la cui apparizione è evidentemente sottintesa. Infine, molte entry hanno un'altra informazione denominata "Evento rilevante" contenente un richiamo di continuity (in inglese) inerente la sequenza in cronologia, che può eventualmente contenente anche riferimenti temporali importanti, ma che più spesso contiene un sunto importante degli eventi narrati.
